Our Story

Origins

Pesso is a family owned business, started by a South African husband and wife team. One half of the team is the daughter of successful shoe retailers and so great shoes are in her DNA!

Pesso was born in 2008 with a collaboration with a dynamic duo of Portuguese shoe manufacturers. Their similar ideologies made for a natural alliance and the couple were inspired by the team of expert leather makers behind them and the pride they instilled in their craft.

Since then, Pesso spends time sourcing the right manufacturers in Europe and South Africa with two main objectives; to never compromise on quality and craftmanship and finding companies with a like-minded ethos.

Lifestyle Brand

In every Pesso there is a beautiful balance of styling and silky soft leathers resulting in a pure and luxurious product. South African’s share a laid back approach to life and Pesso harnesses this heritage, now apparent in the design. It is born from an innate affinity to natural, authentic products and casual comfort with timeless appeal.

Over the years the brand has evolved to include Pesso Men, Pesso Essentials, Pesso Earth, Handbags, Belts, a Vegan Collection made from cork and exceptional Sneakers, Velskoen and Espadrilles.

Ideology

Slow, honest fashion where Pesso takes accountability across their supply chain.  In their small factories there is a strong consciousness around working conditions, hours worked per week, the minimum age and salaries paid.

They pride themselves on their agility and ability to respond to the market. By producing smaller runs, they can test a style and re-order with a quick turnaround. Pesso’s focus on quality and close attention to all the details result is a fine and flawless construction. Pesso believes that brands can play a role in reshaping consumption because the product lasts longer and consumers end up buying fewer, better things. When goods are made with integrity, this filters down and results in a better world.
